Panasonic ES-PV3B on a Bald Head

The one I kept reaching for. A compact face shaver that quietly became the daily tool.

VerdictMy travel razor, and very likely my permanent one.

Bought by March, tested on a bald head. No affiliate links.

I bought the Panasonic as a small face shaver to throw in a bag. Three weeks later it is the only tool I reach for, and I have not found a fault with it yet. I genuinely don’t understand why it isn’t the default choice for bald men.

How it was tested

Three weeks of regular shaves on a fully shaved head, all of them dry, including one shave on three to four days of growth. I am about to spend six to eight weeks in the US with it as my only razor, and this piece will be updated when I am back.

Closeness

This is a near-razor finish. It is noticeably closer than the Philips, and I prefer it to the Pitbull. Run a hand over the scalp straight after and there is nothing to find.

Coverage

Most of the head needs a single pass. A full shave takes me about five minutes. The real test was leaving it three or four days: I skipped the clippers entirely and went straight through the growth without any trouble.

Skin

Minimal redness after shaving, and that is dry, with no foam or gel. I have a raised mole on the right side of my head. Every foil shaver I have used before has caught it. This one goes straight over it and doesn’t touch it.

Handling

It is tiny and remarkably light. It sits in the palm rather than being held like a handle, which makes reaching the back of the head easy. It is small enough that I forget it is in my bag.

Living with it

I get five or six full shaves out of a charge. It charges by USB-C, which means no archaic charger to pack, and on its own that is a reason to buy it. The foils sit behind a guard. I have had other foil shavers where the foils got damaged in transit and the whole thing was useless until a replacement set arrived, which is not something you want to be chasing on the road.

I don’t know how this isn’t the first choice for bald men.
